The Beginning of the World as We Know It

I've started this blog in an attempt to document some of the more pertinent things I'm learning about Reformed and Covenant Theology. If our doctrine really does dictate how we live our lives, then I guess I'd better be about the business of defining my doctrine.

In a nutshell, there are a number of concepts I've been able to embrace without compunction. Here are a few:

1. Covenant - the concept of God's unbroken and consistent dealings with a select people is not hard to swallow.
2. Paedobaptism - so far so good on this one as well. The fact that God has dealt covenantally with households and families is true and simple. Baptizing children into that covenant is a reasonable thing.
3. Paedocommunion - from the concept of baptizing children, it is not much of a leap to say they are included in the covenant to the point of their being permitted to partake of the Lord's Table.
4. TULIP - I have to admit that I am still working through some aspects of Calvinism, but in all it is a palatable and well-reasoned apologetic.
5. WCF - the Confession contains a few hiccups, but none so great as to stop my heart from beating.

There are a number of things that intrigue and respectfully frighten me about Presbyterianism:

1. Church discipline - no other denomination seems to have a handle on this issue. Presbyterians recoginize the need for it and seem to do it well and without abuse as a rule.
2. Federal headship - the fact that it is all on me, and that I am subject to church discipline and accountability for my family is a far cry from a men's meeting in a non-denomiational church. Promise Keepers never had it so tough as this.

This is a thinking man's religion that can be seen as pure and faultless if it works. I think it does.
