Gut-Rumbles

I'm tempted to call the Reformed way of life a "movement". Somehow I don't think that applies. Revolutions are movements. Reformation is not. There is a scatalogical joke in here somewhere, but I'm too tired to find it. Selah.

Spooky Stuff

I'm working my way through Gary North's "Unholy Spirits", written in the mid-80s. A little more than I was expecting in terms of narrative. He spends a LOT of time expounding on all the spooky stuff, bordering (IMHO) on more than necessary. Apparently he wrote it in part as evidence to those who are skeptic concerning the existence of The Dark Side. Appears I'm going to have to dig through all the ancillaries (spontaneous human combustion, UFOs, psychic surgery, pyramids sharpening razor blades, etc.) to get to the doctrinal statements. It's very thick book ... in a lot of ways. Seems a guy who cites Ockham's Razor would be willing to weild it on his own manuscript, no?

Doctrines of Demons (among other things)

Here is a brief bibliographic response to my inquiry concerning Reformed demonology.

Adams, Jay - The War Within
Brooks, Thomas - Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices
Gilpin, Richard - Biblical Demonology
Gilpin, Richard - Satan's Temptations
Leahy, Fredrick - Satan Cast Out
McArthur, John - How To Meet Your Enemy: Arming Yourself for Spiritual Warfare
Morrison, Alan - The Serpent and the Cross
North, Gary - Unholy Spirits
Page, Sydney - Powers of Evil
Powlison, David - Power Encounters: Reclaiming Spiritual Warfare
Christian in Complete Armor

Looks like I have some reading to do.

We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do ...

As long as we are at it, how about an exegesis on the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of a Reformed/Covenantal believer? What do the cessationist REALLY believe about this relationship? If the gifts of the Spirit are no longer in operation, how do we explain the fruits of the Spirit? Is it far-fetched to insist that the gifts AND the fruits are not inseperable? How is the fruit demonstrated without the gifts of the Spirit? Are Dispensationalists so wrong to exegete that the two are inseperable? Somehow, the idea that one half of the Holy Spirit's role is no longer applicable seems like selective amnesia to me.

I wonder if anyone has produced a comprehensive work on the interaction between demons, angels, the unregenerate man and the elect?
